State archives prepare inquiries (on social and legal maters based on archival documents) and verified copies of archival documents on request of individuals or institutions to prove their rights and transactions.
Customers should fill in written request form or submit written free form request, in this case should be specify:
- personal data: name, family name (previous family name), address of the place of permanent or temporary residence)
- the subject of the question at issues: place and time of the event or transaction, at least aprox. chronological period;
- form of answer: official inquiry, documents copies with identification code or verified copies, list of files relevant to this case etc.
- reason of request: the institution were inquiry will be submitted and for what reason the archival record is needed);
- place and way of delivery of the copies: by mail, by e-mail, at archives
The request of the institution should be official.
The request should be submitted personally in Archives, or in the Directorate General of State Archives of Latvia, or in any other state archives or its information and service sectors or by post or by fax or by e-mail.
The Archives prepare references concerning the following questions:
- Belonging of real estate (inquiry form)
- Belonging of enterprise
- Will
- Registration of birth
- Registration of marriage
- Registration of death
- Change of surname
- Divorce
- Domicile, citizenship, nationality
- Domicile, composition of family, kinship of particular persons
- Adoption
- Length of service
- Education
- Service in the army of tsar, Latvian army, legion, police, being in labour service
- Bringing into the territory of Latvia, deporting from Latvia to concentration camps and forced labour
- Being placed in ghetto
- Treatment in hospital
